Every piece we sell is made after you order it, in our Los Angeles studio, by the two of us. Here's what happens between your order and your doorstep.
1. Design
Each piece starts as either a CAD design or a hand-carved wax model. Which one depends on the piece; we work both ways, and some designs call for one over the other.
2. Casting
The model is attached to a sprue tree and encased in a mold. The mold goes into our kiln, where the wax burns out and leaves an empty cavity in the exact shape of your piece. This is the lost wax method, and it's how fine jewelry has been cast for thousands of years.
Then we fill that cavity with molten metal, either 925 sterling silver or 14k gold, depending on what you ordered.
3. Finishing
Once the metal has cooled, we break the piece out of the mold. What comes out is rough, and this is where most of the time goes: sawing away the sprue, sanding, setting any stones, and polishing, all by hand. The last step is an ultrasonic clean before the piece is packed up and sent to you.
How long does it take?
Please allow 2 to 4 weeks for your piece to be made. Once it ships, US orders typically arrive in 3 to 7 days. See Shipping & Returns for details.
Why made to order?
Because we're two people in a studio, not a factory. Making each piece to order means nothing sits in a drawer, every ring is cast in the right size from the start, and we only use the gold and silver a piece actually needs. It takes a little longer than buying off the rack, and that's the point. The piece that arrives was made for you.
